Caraquet Cultural Capital 2009

On May 8th, 2003, Caraquet received, from Canadian Heritage, the distinction of Cultural Capital of Canada proving its continual commitment to the development of arts and culture.

The Town of Caraquet is certainly a role model to follow in arts and culture. In 1993, a cultural politic was created and in 1994, a cultural commission, providing the cultural organisms and events with structure and tools to work with.

The distinction of Cultural Capital of Canada comes with a monetary contribution equal to the new investments of the Town for artistic and cultural projects in the community. The Town has injected $500 000 in new projects like the auditorium, the art gallery and the artist's studio in our brand new cultural centre. This project also support the preparation of the 25th anniversary of the 'Tintamarre'.

The promotion office for arts, culture and tourism will also be establish by that project. It's principal assignment will consist in promoting the activities and support the organisms and events of cultural and artistic vocation.
